Which fenders to choose?
Which fenders to choose?
The choice of fender size depends on the size of the boat and the type of mooring. Fenders must be large enough to absorb impact without damaging the boat. Larger fenders are ideal for larger boats, while smaller ones are perfect for smaller boats or yachts.
The choice of material instead must be made between:
- PVC: Offers impact resistance and can last a long time, especially in saltwater conditions.
- Rubber: Offers impact resistance and can last a long time, especially in saltwater conditions.
- Foam: Great for applications in quieter environments, where heavy fenders are not necessary.
- Teak: Used for luxury boats, it offers a classic and elegant aesthetic while maintaining good strength.
How do you use fenders?
How do you use fenders?
Correct Position : Fenders should be positioned along the sides of the boat, at waterline level, where contact with the dock or other vessels is expected. The ideal position varies depending on specific conditions and the height of the dock.
Number of Fenders : Using a sufficient number of fenders is crucial to avoiding damage. Generally, it is recommended to use at least two fenders per side , but the number depends on the size and type of boat.
Rotation and Maintenance : Fenders, especially inflatable ones, should be checked regularly to ensure they aren't leaking or deteriorating from exposure to the sun. Rubber or rigid plastic fenders require regular cleaning to remove algae and sea salt.
