How to choose filters, cables and controls for your motorcycle
Air filters: OEM replacement or high filtration
Air filters are divided into two main categories: OEM replacements, designed to replicate factory specifications, and high-performance oiled cotton filters. The former, produced by brands such as Meiwa (MIW) and SGR, guarantee a direct replacement without modifications; the latter, such as those from K&N and DT-1, offer greater airflow and are washable. The choice depends on your needs: routine maintenance or seeking greater engine breathing.
Oil filters: compatibility first and foremost
For oil filters, the decisive factor is compatibility with the engine, which can be checked using the make, model and year. Meiwa, UFI and Knecht/Mahle cover a wide range of applications. Always check the code on the filter to be replaced or the vehicle's technical manual before purchasing.
Brake and transmission cables: measurements and fittings
Speedometer cables, brake cables and throttle cables are components subject to progressive wear. The parameters to check are the overall length, the cable diameter, and the shape and dimensions of the fittings at both ends. SGR products cover a very wide range of European and Japanese motorcycles and scooters. For older or niche applications, the original OEM code is the most reliable reference.
Grips: grip, density and fastening system
ProGrip is the benchmark for grips, with dedicated ranges for road use, motocross, enduro and ATVs. The main variables are the inner diameter (compatible with the handlebar), the fastening system (classic or lock-on), and the material density (single or dual density). Perforated versions improve ventilation during road riding; dual-density grips absorb vibrations better off-road.
Rearview mirrors and carburetor kits
Hert mirrors are available for a wide range of specific models, with distinct right and left fittings: always check the side and the thread of the fitting on your vehicle. Carburetor rebuild kits include gaskets, needles, jets and diaphragms; they are identified by model and carburetor code, so an exact match is essential to avoid installation incompatibilities.
