From the steering system to the propeller, from filters to sacrificial anodes: this section covers everything you need to maintain, repair, and optimize the inboard engine. To get started, it is best to begin with the type of engine (inboard, outboard, or sterndrive) and the manufacturer, which determine the compatibility of almost every spare part.

How to choose the right components for your boat's engine

Engine spare parts: make and model first and foremost

For oil filters, fuel filters, impellers, cartridges and thermostats, the decisive factor is compatibility with the engine installed on board. Every manufacturer (Yanmar, Honda, Yamaha, Lombardini, Nanni and others) has its own specifications: before choosing a spare part, check the make, model and year of manufacture of the engine. The most frequent searches concern diesel filters, 30-micron cartridges and multi-brand oil filters, indicating that many boaters are looking for interchangeable solutions: always check the original order number before proceeding.

Propellers: pitch, diameter and material

A propeller is chosen based on its diameter, pitch and number of blades, values that must be calibrated to the engine and hull to achieve the correct RPM at maximum power. Aluminum propellers are the standard choice for recreational use and economical replacement; stainless steel ones guarantee greater impact resistance and better performance at high speeds. The most searched series are the Solas Amita (3 blades, aluminum) and duoprop propellers for engines with two coaxial units. For Honda, Yamaha and other outboard engines, always check the hub type and shaft splines.

Steering and remote control cables

The Ultraflex cables (C8, C14, M66, M90 series and others) and Uflex and Mavimare products cover most outboard and inboard-outboard installations. The choice depends on the required length (in feet or meters), the type of steering (mechanical or hydraulic) and the required steering torque. For hydraulic steering, check the compatibility of the hydraulic oil with the installed cylinder.

Sacrificial anodes: material based on water type

Anodes protect the propeller, shaft and submerged metal parts from galvanic corrosion. They are chosen in zinc for salt water, aluminum for brackish water and magnesium for fresh water. Brands such as Tecnoseal, Osculati by Tecnoseal and Enrico Polipodio offer specific anodes for the main engine and shaft manufacturers.

Flaps, bow thrusters and electric controls

Hydraulic flaps (Lenco) and trim control systems improve planing and cruising comfort. Bow thrusters and their corresponding push-button controls (Quick, Max Power, Lewmar) require attention to the supply voltage and the thrust in kgf appropriate to the length and displacement of the boat. Thermal protection switches are often overlooked components but are essential for the safety of the system.

Domande frequenti
