How to choose the right spare parts for your roof rack

Brand and model compatibility: the first criterion

Most roof rack spare parts — adapters, locks, specific straps — are designed to work with a specific system. Before purchasing, always check the brand of your roof rack or box (Thule, Yakima, Nordrive, Fabbri, Elite, Modula) and the model reference, often found on a label inside the box or on the original documentation. Buying a generic spare part can result in an unstable or non-functional installation.

Adapters: T-Track and bar compatibility

Adapters are used to attach accessories — bike racks, boxes, ski racks — to roof bars. T-Track channel adapters (such as Thule's 697 series) depend on the width of the bar profile: always check the channel size before ordering. There are also specific adapters for fat bike wheels or thru-axles, which vary depending on the type of bicycle fork.

Locks and security: single keys and SKS systems

Replacement locks and single keys are among the most sought-after spare parts, particularly for Yakima SKS (Same Key System) systems and Thule locks. The advantage of SKS systems is being able to open multiple accessories with a single key: if you already have one, look for the key with the same code. For Thule locks, check the number engraved on the cylinder (e.g., 957) to find the correct spare part.

Cargo tie-down straps and lid straps

Straps differ in length, hook type, and function. Polyester cargo tie-down straps with S-hooks secure the load to the bars; lid straps (such as the Lid Pull Straps for Motion 3 boxes) make opening and closing the box easier. Check the required length and compatibility with your box model before purchasing.

Lifts and supports for storing the box

When the box is not in use, ceiling lifts and wall supports allow you to store it in the garage without taking up floor space. There are motorized and manual solutions, as well as horizontal or vertical supports. Evaluate the dimensions of your box and the available height in the garage to choose the most suitable system.
