How to choose windows and blinds for motorhomes
Windows: dimensions and opening system
Motorhome windows are distinguished above all by their opening type: sliding (side-sliding) or casement (tilt-and-turn). The external dimensions of the frame and the size of the opening in the body panel are the measurements to take before choosing a replacement. The most sought-after models belong to the Dometic Seitz S3, S4 and S5 series; some equivalent compatible windows, such as those from Roxite or the FAD range, can replace the originals as long as the exact dimensions of the opening are respected.
How to find the right replacement
For replacement windows, it is essential to measure the opening in the panel (width × height in millimeters), check the thickness of the wall into which the frame is inserted and, if available, read the code shown on the profile of the existing window. Sizes range from narrow cabin windows to larger living area windows.
Thermal blinds: interior, exterior and roof
Blinds are divided into interior pleated types, attached with suction cups or hooks from the inside, and exterior types, which cover the entire glass surface from the outside, blocking the sun and temperature fluctuations before they reach the glass. Roof blinds are custom-shaped for the vehicle model and protect the surface most exposed to temperature variations. Clairval covers numerous van and motorhome models with dedicated solutions; Remis mainly produces systems for the driver's cab, including the Remifront IV for vans such as the Fiat Ducato.
Mounting accessories and complementary materials
For exterior thermal blinds, the most common mounting systems are hooks and suction cups: hooks ensure a more stable hold, while suction cups are more practical for quick installation and removal. It is essential to check the compatibility of the mounting system with the type of window profile. Insulating tapes and thermal fabrics by the metre complete the range for those who want to create or integrate custom solutions.
Fly screens
Fly screens for motorhome windows are often integrated into the profile of the window itself, in combined blind/fly screen systems, or purchased separately. Compatibility with the installed window model is the first selection criterion.
