The Transit '00 > Firestone Air Suspension is a round axle – twin wheel design.
It is an auxiliary air suspension kit designed to improve the ride comfort, stability and load capacity of the vehicle.
HIGHLIGHTS:
- It is made up of pneumatic bellows (air springs) that are mounted between the frame and the original axle or suspension.
- It allows you to adjust the air pressure in the bellows, so as to adapt the suspension to the load carried, level the vehicle and reduce the fatigue of the original springs.
- Improves lateral stability, cornering grip, and braking when the vehicle is loaded or towing
- It is not intended to increase the maximum load capacity of the vehicle beyond that indicated by the manufacturer (GVWR) but to manage it better
MAIN FEATURES:
- Minimum/Maximum Air Pressure for Air Bellows: For example, for certain Firestone kits “Min/Max Air Pressure” is indicated from 5 psi up to 100 psi (or the equivalent in bar) in the manual
- Bellows mounting height and travel: It is important that the bellows have enough room to expand and not hit adjacent components. The manual states that "there must be at least 1/2" (about 12 mm) of space around the bellows when inflated."
- The kit includes: air bellows, mounting brackets, air hoses, inflation valves, sometimes compressor (if it is an “All-In-One” kit)
ADVANTAGES:
- Improves comfort and absorption of road bumps thanks to the air component that acts as an additional shock absorber
- Reduces fatigue on the original springs and prevents rear sagging (rear end sag) when carrying loads or storing them inside campers
- Allows for adjustment of the vehicle level: useful for campers with variable loads and for maintaining the correct trim
- Improves safety: a correct setup helps maintain more effective braking and road holding
INSTALLATION TIPS:
- Always lift the vehicle safely and place it on certified jack stands.
- After assembly, check that the air pipes do not pass too close to the exhaust system or hot parts: if necessary, install thermal protection
- Gradually inflate the bellows and check the pressure with the vehicle fully set.
- Periodically check the condition of the bellows (wear, abrasions), the brackets and fixings, especially in camper/caravan vehicles which may have greater stress and vibrations
