CIBA

Marine glue known for its exceptional water resistance and ability to bond a wide range of materials, even in harsh and humid environments.

Types of Marine Glues

  • VINYL GLUES

PVA glue is one of the most widely used adhesives.

Widely used in the world of carpentry and DIY, it is excellent for jobs involving paper, cardboard and wood.

PVA glues are usually white in color, concentrated, and quite liquid.

There are many types, produced by various brands in the sector, for professional or hobby use. Looking at those designed for carpentry, you'll discover that they're rather slow , and therefore require holding the material to be glued in place—and under pressure—for a long time.

PVA glue can be sanded and painted . Regular PVA glue, it should be noted, is not waterproof. In this case, you need to look for a PVA glue that specifically indicates this, so you know that, once dry, it will no longer be water- soluble .

  • CELLULOSE GLUES

They smell of solvent, are transparent , not too liquid and not soluble in water, and have rather short drying times.

Once dried, they are perfectly dry , more so than vinyl glues, and are therefore particularly suitable for sanding.

  • MASTICS

There's a tendency to call any particularly powerful professional glue mastic. Well, that's not the case at all; in fact, it's a big mistake.

Mastic is, in fact, a special contact adhesive that only works in a specific way: by applying glue to both surfaces to be glued. Specifically, to glue two pieces together with mastic, you need to apply the adhesive to both surfaces, wait a variable amount of time—usually less than 10 minutes—and then glue them together.

The action is immediate, and therefore it is absolutely necessary to position the two pieces perfectly right from the start.

  • SILICONES

Silicones, adhesives and/or sealants, can be acetic, neutral, two-component, one-component and so on.

This is, therefore, a very diverse class of products. In all cases, however, we are dealing with substances that polymerize by polycondensation, with single-components triggered by humidity, and two-components triggered by a reaction between silicic acid and hydroxypolysioloxanes. Distinctive characteristics of silicones include high elasticity, even at low temperatures, ease of use, and high resistance to ultraviolet rays.

  • EPOXY RESINS

Epoxy resin is a real all-rounder.

Its base is a polymer characterized by excellent adhesive properties on a wide variety of materials, from wood to concrete, fabrics, and metals. The key, when using epoxy resin as an adhesive, is to select the right additive.
