Motorcycle and Scooter Horns

Let's talk about motorcycle and scooter horns —a simple yet essential component for road safety . They're used to signal your presence or warn of danger , and they're also subject to specific regulations.

🔊 Types of Horns for Motorcycles and Scooters

1. Electric Disc Horn (Standard)

  • Most common on scooters and small-displacement motorcycles

  • Dry and not too loud sound

  • Powered by 12V DC

✔️ Economical and compatible with most models
❌ Not very audible in heavy traffic

2. Electronic Horn (Tuning or Maxi)

  • More powerful, often mounted on maxi-scooters or large-displacement motorcycles

  • Stronger and deeper sound

✔️ Greater acoustic safety
❌ Requires space and sometimes a dedicated relay

3. Compressed Air Horn

  • Rarely used on motorcycles, more for shows or special vehicles

  • Very loud sound, similar to that of trucks

⚠️ Not always approved for road use

🛠️ How to choose the right horn

  1. Voltage → almost all scooters/motorcycles use 12V

  2. Sound type → discreet (standard) or powerful (trumpet)

  3. Dimensions and connections → check the space available under the shield or near the radiator

  4. Approval → if you use the motorbike on the road, check that it is E-marked (E9, E11, etc.)
