Motorcycle transmission oil is essential to ensure proper functioning of the gearbox and, in some cases, the clutch and differential, especially in two-stroke engines or systems with a separate gearbox.

Types of motorcycle transmission oil:

It depends on the type of motorcycle and the engine configuration:

🏍 2-stroke motorcycles (with separate gearbox)

Transmission oil is only used for the gearbox and clutch , as the mixture lubricates the engine.

• Recommended type : 2-stroke motorcycle gearbox oil (often 10W30, 75W90 or similar)

• Examples :

  • Motul Transoil

  • Castrol MTX

  • Bardahl Gearbox

🏍 4-Stroke Motorcycles

They often use a single engine oil that lubricates everything (engine, gearbox, clutch).

• Recommended type : 4T engine oil with JASO MA/MA2 specifications (compatible with wet clutches).

  • Castrol Power1 Racing

  • Repsol Moto Racing

🛠 Motorcycles with separate gearboxes (e.g. BMWs, some Harleys)

You need a dedicated transmission oil (e.g. 75W90 or 80W90), often specifically for gears.

• Recommended type : Gearbox oil (GL-4 or GL-5 depending on specification)
